the complete stories about Augustus S. F. X. Van Dusen Ph.D., LL.D., F.R.S., M.D., M.D.S, etc, etc. These short stories and novellas by Jacques Futrelle were published between 1905-1912, mainly in newspapers such as Boston American and Saturday Evening Post. For a time it seemed as Futrelle would gain as much fame as his contemporaneous colleague writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, but at only 37 years of age, Futrelle died in the Titanic disaster and is now largely forgotten. His works are in public domain. There are reports of more Van Dusen stories by the pen of Futrelle and indeed some of them have been printed by the Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and others ('The leak' for example). I have however been unable to find more than these 52 stories. Further stories about The Thinking Machine have been written since the 1940s for German radio by Michael Koser, along with a string of comics. In the 1970s, two Van Dusen stories were filmed by Thames Television, starring Douglas Wilmer.
