Looking back

The photographer Lennart Olson, member of Tio Fotografer, is one of the most noted photographers in Sweden. A half century of photographic output is presented in the book Looking Back a powerful document that gives insight into an eccentric artistic vision, impressive in its strength and consistency. His austere architectural visual language and abstract linear play made Olson the favorite photographer of Swedish constructivists; his portraits of the painter Olle Bærtling and other personages of 1947 are particularly well-known. Olson subsequently explored the art and artists in the circle around Pontus Hultén and the new Moderna Museet a photographic document that reflects the dynamic development of modern art during the 1950s and 1960s in Stockholm, Paris and New York.
